Wilson's fame travelled to America in 2014 when she starred in Showtimes The Affair. She was Alison Lockhart, a young woman with a troubled past and becomes involved with Noah Solloway. The show that also stars Maura Tierney and Joshua Jackson was a hit among viewers and critics alike and won Wilson an award of a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama in 2015. Wilson stated to British Vogue she was a fan of being a character from both perspective. Noah imagines Alison's confident and reckless sexy side. But Alison views herself in an entirely other light. On the inside she's unattractive. She also said that she does not believe America to be so moralistic. Wilson has since left the show much to the surprise of fans. However, Wilson was very cryptic regarding additional specifics. On an interview on CBS This Morning Interview in August of 2018, Wilson stated, "I did want to quit, but I'm unable to speak about for it." The Little Stranger More recently Wilson has turned to more film work. Wilson was a part of the 2016 horror film I Am the Pretty Thing who lives in the house. She also played the obscure PT Stella character in the 2017 sci-fi romance How to Talk to Girls at Parties. In addition to her horror credits Wilson is also set to appear in the British movie version of The Little Stranger. The supernatural thriller was inspired by the Sarah Waters' novel. Wilson is executive producing The film.
