Nicole Ari Parker was born in New York City. The actress is American stage and film actor. The most well-known role she has played is as Teri, the passionate attorney Teri Jospehson on the Showtime television series Soul Food. The actress is known under her maiden name of Nikki Kodjoe. Her birthplace and childhood was within Baltimore Maryland. When she was young, she demonstrated the desire to act and won the Best Actress Award in a Maryland High School competition. After her experience in the theatre and with "The Washington Ballet Company" She was awarded an acting certificate from New York University. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was her first major performance. It was followed by other films like 'Boogie Nights Spark' and Blue Streak. Contractor, who was brought up by his parents from Nigeria and Mumbai prior to turning 7years old, traveled all over all over the world and had a taste of diverse cultures when he was a kid. She went to boarding school from the age of 7 to 9 in London. Later the family relocated to Toronto (Canada) where they lived for the rest of her childhood. When she was in Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics and trained as ballet dancer of classical training. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts. This is a specialized school for arts and sciences, in which she didn't just study theater but danced as well. At 16, after nearly 10 years of dancing Contractor decided to pursue acting seriously. After she completed high school and was awarded a full tuition scholarship to University of Toronto where she studied theatre with a double degrees in Sociology and Psychology. Contractor was offered the lead role in Pericles following her one year stay at the University. She was a part of the audition for it during the Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and received. The year 2002 was a great one for her. Canadian reviewers praised her performance in 92 performances of the play. Contractor was offered the opportunity to join Stratford's conservatory, where only eight males and four females are selected for a 20-week crash course in classical theatre, which she was eager to take. Her place in the upcoming play season was secured and she was chosen in the play as Hermia.
